My life never included a chapter called “prison,” and definitely not one this long. I grew up in North-Central Ohio, where I had a pretty good life until my incarceration at age 27. Now that I am in my 40s, I look back and am thankful for the ways I've grown. I do my best to use my time well and keep moving forward.

Before prison I worked as a sleep technologist at the Cleveland Clinic. These days, I work as a field minister, encouraging positive change and supporting the men around me. I also volunteer as a certified Braille transcriber. I feel fortunate to be a part of a program that produces books for blind students.

A few things that keep me sane in here: reading, playing soccer, studying computer networking, drinking coffee, listening to country music and pretending prison food is gourmet… okay, that last one is still a work in progress. I try to exercise daily, but sometimes lose that battle to a movie or a nap. Small joys I miss on the outside: dogs, flying, eating out, campfires, log cabins and the simple peace of being outdoors without a crowd.

What I'm hoping for is a real relationship–something we can both learn from. enjoy and maybe laugh our way through on tough days. If you're someone who appreciates good conversation and encouragement, I'd be grateful for your company. I'm looking forward to offering a genuinely positive pen-pal experience.
