Greetings, My name is Raymond Butler. I'm a single, fit, well read father of one in my early 30's, writing to you from the confines of America's largest and most notorious Death Row here at San Quentin State Prison in Northern California, USA. The intended purpose of this venture, is to formally introduce myself in the hopes that despite my current situation, we might open a positive exchange of dialogue. Of late, I find myself working to assemble a network of individuals to share with, garner moral support from and walk with in this fight for what's left of my life. Meeting me, you'll find that I'm a simple man from a simple background. I'm a son, brother, and a friend, born multi-racial and raised on the tough gang infested and racially divided streets of Southern California. the hard fight for survival has certainly led to the sobering circumstances of this tragedy. I AM NOT A KILLER! I was tried in a politically charged environment and saddled with an ineffective attorney whom collaborated with the District Attorney to get me killed. In front of a judge who deliberately refused not one, but two hung juries, demanding a verdict, no doubt, my constitutional rights as a U.S. citizen have been egregiously violated. I did not receive a fair trial, one without errors which could have easily been avoided. ![]() Now, against the clock as a man of modest intelligence and ambition, I struggle daily to elevate my terribly damaged reputation in my search for truth and justice. These efforts are yours to embrace. We have seen time and time again, people exonerated through D-N-A evidence just days, even hours away from being executed. This mental and emotional torture is the obvious sign of a broken and unjust legal system. Should you find yourself in opposition to capital punishment and believe in non-lethal alternatives, even if your simply undecided about such emotionally charged issues, I would very much like to hear from you. I welcome advice, photos, spiritual guidance, greeting cards, stationary, and various other forms of much needed support. Open the window into my heart, indulge me. You will find that I'm an approachable human being, much like yourselves. I promise, you will not be disappointed or left hanging. Postage permitting, I will answer all promptly. You are my link to the outside world. The source of my hope. In loving kindness and respect, Raymond Butler # K-17700 San Quentin Prison San Quentin, CA 94964 USA |
