My name is Michael Bernier.
March 1993 I turned 15. In May of 1993 I was arrested for murder and have been
in prison ever since. I started in Juvenile Detention and when I turned 16 I
was transferred to Adult Court and sent to the county jail. I'm serving two
consecutive 30 year sentences for a total effective sentence of 60 years. I
plead guilty.Throughout my numerous court proceedings, I sat quiet and complainsant allowing my lawyer to handle everything for me. I didn't know anything regarding the law so I thought it was right to let my lawyer do what was best. Maybe that was a mistake, maybe it wasn't. I don't know what mistakes may or may not have been made.
What I'm looking for is a CT lawyer or group of CT lawyers to pick through my case and give me an opinion on whether or not I have any issues. Or. to help me with a sentence modification. I want to try to get my two sentences ran concurrent. I have a near spotless prison record and have spent considerable time educating myself and corresponding with organizations that deal with Juveniles being tried as adults. It would be preferable if anyone responding to this ad were passionate about juveniles not being tried as adults.
A fair warning! My case was prosecuted by the current Chief State's Attorney when he was a prosecutor in New London. Nothing has been done since my sentencing. I've always thought that my only relief would be someday get a modification.
